1)Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs:- The Central Board of Indirect taxes and Customs (CBIC) (Hindi:केंद्रीय अप्रत्यक्ष कर एवं सीमा शुल्क बोर्ड) is the nodal national agency responsible for administering Customs, GST, Central Excise, Service Tax & Narcotics in India.

Currently the Customs and Central Excise /CGST department comes under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.

What is Customs Duty :- Definition: Customs Duty is a tax imposed on imports and exports of goods.

Union Excise Duty :- Union excise duty is a type of indirect tax on goods manufactured in India.

2)World Press Freedom Prize:
The World Press Freedom Prize also known as UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize is formally conferred every year by Director-General of UNESCO, on occasion of World Press Freedom Day observed on 3 May.

It is named in honour of Guillermo Cano Isaza, a Colombian journalist.

3)ICRISAT hosts multi-nation meet to tackle Fall Army Worm:- 

ICRISAT (International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics) has hosted representatives from eight nations to understand the challenges and find solutions to tackle the rapidly growing problem of Fall Armyworm(FAW).

Fall Army worm is an invasive agricultural pest. It was first reported in West Africa in 2016, the pest quickly assumed epidemic proportions and spread to over 44 African countries. In India, its infection was first reported in Karnataka in 2018.

It affects Maize, rice , sorghum, surgarcane.

4)Hangul:- also known as the Kashmir stag. Hangul is the state animal of Jammu & Kashmir.It is the only subspecies of red deer in India. It is restricted to Dachigam National Park
The Hangul is placed under Schedule I of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act,1972 and the J&K Wildlife Protection Act,1978.

The IUCN’s Red List has classified it as Critically Endangered and is also listed under the Species Recovery Programme of the Wildlife Institute of India(WII) and the Environmental Information System (ENVIS) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).

5)Launch of Fourth Scorpene Class Submarine - VELA:- Vela, the fourth Scorpene class submarine being constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited for the Indian Navy, was launched on 06 May 2019.

Originally Scorpene class : They are a class of diesel-electric attack submarines developed jointly by the French Direction des Constructions Navales (DCN) and the Spanish company Navantia, and now by DCNS.

INS Kalvari is the 1st Scorpene class submarine, 2nd is INS Khanderi built under Project-75.

3rd one is INS-Karanj.

6) BRO:- Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is celebrating its 59th Raising Day here today. BRO is a leading road construction agency under the Ministry of Defence with a primary role of providing road connectivity in border areas. It executes road construction and maintenance works along the Northern and Western frontiers primarily.

BRO has also constructed roads in friendly foreign countries like Bhutan, Myanmar, Afghanistan etc. thus contributing towards our strategic objectives in the region.

8)International Narcotics Control Board:- In a significant victory, India's Jagjit Pavadia was re-elected to the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) for another term.

INCB consists of 13 members who are elected by the ECOSOC and who serve in their personal capacity. Established in 1968, the INCB is an independent and quasi-judicial monitoring body for the implementation of the UN's international drug control conventions.

9)Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI):- PMI or a Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) is an indicator of business activity — both in the manufacturing and services sectors.

The headline PMI is a number from 0 to 100.The figure above 50 denotes expansion in business activity. Anything below 50 denotes contraction.
