1)India-Maldives relations are reaching at a new Low Level since the time Maldivian President declared emergency (which India Opposed).

Jobs are being taken, work Permits have been revoked, advertisements there say "Indians need not apply".

Lets understand geography of maldives:



8 Degree Channel  Separates Minicoy (From Lakshdweep group)  and Maldives.
10 Degree Channel Separates Andaman and Nicobar Group of Islands.


2)NDSA or National Dam Safety Authority be be set up soon as cabinet cleared the Dam Safety Bill, 2018 which will be introduced in the parliament soon.

What This Body will do ?? :- It will liaise with State level dam safety organisations and the owners of dams for standardising safety related data and practices.

The NDSA will investigate dam failures and have the authority to fine the States that are found remiss in implementing safety measures.

It will look into “unresolved points of issue” between the States which share dam territory and look to “eliminating potential causes for interState conflicts".

Some Other Provisions of the Bill:=


  • The Bill provides for constitution of a National Committee on Dam Safety which shall evolve dam safety policies and recommend necessary regulations as may be required for the purpose.
  • The Bill provides for constitution of a State Committee on Dam Safety by State Government.


Two Dams were mentioned in the News :

i)Mullaperiyar Dam in Kerala
ii)Chembarambakkam Dam in Tamil Nadu , which was also one of the reasons for chennai floods of 2015.

3)India, China discuss ‘Oil Buyers Club’:- Since Oil Prices have been continuously increaseing easpecially for Asian Nations (ASIAN PREMIUM) thanks to OPEC, India discussed with China the possibility of forming an ‘oil buyers club’ that can negotiate better terms with sellers as well as getting more U.S. crude oil to Asia to cut dominance of the oil block.

16th International Energy Forum Ministerial - IEF16 was held in New Delhi , India in April 2018.

4)FIFA World Cup 2018 Starts today.
This is the 21st FIFA WORLD CUP.
Last Time in 2014 , it was held in Brazil and the winner was Germany.




FIFA WC 2022 will be held in Qatar
FIFA WC 2026 will be held in America, Mexico and Canada.
The 2026 World Cup will be the First to have 48 Teams

5)Some more evidences of Climate Change :- 

i)changing the growth patterns of local wild edible mushrooms which are showing early Fruiting. This is due to adaptation to Global Warming.

ii)Antarctic ice loss has tripled

6)India Nepal Joint Military Exercise : Suryakiran 

7)Another reason For New Delhi Pollution:- High Pollution Levels in Delhi Mainly Due to Dust Storms from Rajasthan: Environment Ministry.
Rajasthan is facing extremely dry weather conditions, with high temperatures and wind speeds.

8)NITI Aayog to launch Composite Water Management Index:- NITI Aayog has come up with the Composite Water Management Index as a useful tool to assess and improve the performance in efficient management of water resources.
This index is an attempt to inspire States and UTs towards efficient and optimal utilization of water, and recycling thereof with a sense of urgency.
