1)National Youth Day is on 12th January. It is also the Birthday of Swami Vivekanand.

2)9th January is the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.
Chief Guest This year was Antonio Costa : PM of Portugal.



3)Pakistan successfully test-fired its first Submarine-Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM) Babur-3 capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. This launch gives Pakistan a “credible” second-strike capability.
It has a range of 450km.

4)Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Nobel Prize Series Exhibition in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. It is the first-of-its-kind conclave of Nobel laureates to be held in India.

It has been organized by Nobel Media and coordinated by the Department of Biotechnology.
Nine Nobel laureates are attending it and interact with students of Indian Universities.

One of the 9 Nobel laureates include India-born scientist Dr Venkatraman Ramakrishnan. He won 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on ribosome structure

5)Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo was named the world’s best player for the year 2016.


6)The child sex ratio at birth (SRB) in Haryana for the first time has touched 900-mark in two decades. SRB in December 2016 in Haryana was 914.

7)The World Hindi Day is observed annually on 10 January. It started from 2006.
It is the 4th Most Spoken language in the world.

8)The Indian Army has successfully conducted ‘user-validation’ trials of indigenous Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) Dhanush in the Himalayas.

It is developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)

9)Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PKVY), a skill development program targeted at Indian youth seeking overseas employment to make India the Skill Capital of the World.

10)The 20th Edition of the National Conference for e-Governance 2016-17 has started in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Internet of Things and e-Governance’

11)The Union Government has made mandatory for workers in rural areas enrolled under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) to have an Aadhaar card.
