3)Winter Fog Experiment (WIFEX 2016-17):
What is Fog:-Fog is a visible mass consisting of cloud water droplets suspended in the air or near the Earth’s surface.

What is the Purpose of WIFEX:- The objectives of the Winter Fog Experiment (WIFEX) are to develop better now-casting (next 6 hours) and forecasting of winter fog on various time and spatial scales, and help reduce its adverse impact on aviation, transportation and economy, and loss of human life due to accidents.

Who is conducting these : Ministry of Earth Sciences.


4) Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on the successful launch of PSLV-C36/Resourcesat-2A into polar Sun Synchronous Orbit.

PSLV-C36 is the thirty eighth flight of ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) placed the 1235 kg RESOURCESAT-2A into an 817 km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO).
PSLV-C36 was launched from the First Launch Pad (FLP) at Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. In this flight, the 'XL' version of PSLV with six solid strap-on motors was used.

PSLV is the ISRO's versatile launch vehicle for launching multiple satellites in polar SSOs, Low Earth Orbits (LEO) as well as Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) and sub GTO.

The three cameras of different resolution on the spacecraft will give regular micro and macro information on land and water bodies below, farm lands and crop extent, forests, mineral deposits, coastal information, rural and urban spreads besides helping in disaster management.

Resourcesat-1 was put in space in October 2003 and Resourcesat-2 in April 2011, each with a planned life of five years.

5)Armed Forces Flag Day : 7th December

6)The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of half yearly review of Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilizers for the year 2016-17.

7)Ministry of Commerce has implemented the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) since 2001. The objectives of NPOP are as under:

1)To provide the means of evaluation of certification programme for organic agriculture and products
2)To facilitate certification of organic products in conformity with the prescribed standards.
3)To encourage the development of organic farming and organic processing.

8)Earthquake Prone Areas: Bureau of Indian Standards [IS 1893 (Part I):2002], has grouped the country into four seismic zones,
viz. Zone II, III, IV and V.

Of these, Zone V is seismically the most active region, while zone II is the least.

Broadly, Zone - V comprises entire northeastern India, parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, part of North Bihar and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Zone - IV covers remaining parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, Sikkim, Northern Parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, parts of Gujarat and small portions of Maharashtra near the west coast and Rajasthan.

Zone – III comprises Kerala, Goa, Lakshadweep islands, remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and West Bengal, Parts of Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Karnataka.

Zone - II covers remaining parts of country.

9)India International Science Festival (IISF-2016) inaugurated in New Delhi.
This is the 2nd IISF.
1st was also in New Delhi.
