1)The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee received Honorary Doctorate from Kathmandu  University.
President also visited the Pashupatinath Temple.

2)Kerala and Tamil Nadu have also rolled out the National Food Security Act (NFSA). With this, now the Act has been implemented in all the States and Union Territories.
Now 81.34 crore persons will get wheat at Rs. 2/ kg and rice at Rs. 3/ kg.

3)CSIR has come out with a “Game changing technology” for enabling the Indian leather sector achieve the set target of USD 27 billion by 2020 by making leather processing environmentally sustainable. This “Waterless chrome tanning technology” is a first of its kind technology to reduce chromium pollution load.

4)The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has rolled out a major scheme for strengthening of Food Testing Infrastructure in the country.

5)In order to assess level of awareness about the registration and voting process, ECI has initiated an online survey for Overseas Indian Citizens.
  The objective of the survey is to study and determine the registration and participation rates among overseas electors. The unique survey, launched by ECI in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) will help in gathering opinions and voting preferences of Overseas Indians.

6)The “Paris Climate Agreement”, comes into force on 4th November 2016.  India and other countries will display a ‘Smiley’ with lights, with the slogan "We Did It" on important buildings.  India ratified the Paris Agreement on 2nd October 2016, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.


7)Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) is aimed to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates through safe pregnancies and safe deliveries. India is poised to work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in maternal and child healthcare. “With Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) the Ministry aims take this forward and improve upon the quality and coverage of health facilities.”
8) The Central Vigilance Commission is observing Vigilance Awareness Week from 31st October to 5th November 2016.The theme for this year is “Public participation in Promoting Integrity and Eradicating Corruption”.
9)Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued Guidelines for transparent bidding process for implementation of Scheme for setting up of 1000 MW Wind Power Project connected to inter-state transmission system (ISTS).

Acconding to which  the Wind Power Projects will be selected through open and transparent competitive bidding followed by e-reverse auction and the capacity may go higher than 1000 MW, if there is demand from Buying Entities.

Discoms of non-windy State and UTs and also the bulk consumers of any State/UTs who intend to buy 10 MW or more can buy wind power under the Scheme.

10)Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction is currently going on in India.This is the first AMCDRR after the advent of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRRR), adopted at the third UN World Conference in Sendai, Japan in March, 2015.

It will set the direction of Sendai Framework implementation in the region.

AMCDRR 2016 will focus on collaboration, consultation and partnership with governments and stakeholders to mainstream DRR in the region’s development narrative.

AMCDRR started in 2005, India also hosted the 2nd AMCDRR in 2007, as it  is a binnial meet.

  1. Refer point 9, reverse auction is a auction process where sellers bid for business from buyer and prices come down as sellers underbid each other.
    Correct me if I am wrong.
